Yarnaby

Yarnaby is a toy produced by Playtime Co. and the upcoming main antagonist in Chapter 4. In 1990, a young orphan named Quinn Navidson was chosen to become Experiment 1166, the Bigger Bodies experiment title for Yarnaby, meaning he was created before Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs and Catnap.

Appearance[]

Yarnaby is a lion-like creature, with his mane and fur composed entirely of multicolored yarn. He has no tail. His features extend to an orange-yellow face and limbs, with a black line vertically splitting his face into two, while a touch of tan graces his three-toed paws. His spherical head contains two large, cartoony white eyes with black, dilated irises and small white pupils. On his face sits a big grin with three triangular fangs poking out asymmetrically from his lower lip, giving him a goofy appearance.

His monster counterpart remains mostly the same, with the exception of his paws sporting retractable, sharp dark claws. In this form, his face bisects to reveal a large mouth hollowed out from the inside of his head, giving him a deranged and disturbing physique. The hollowed-out portions are composed of bright crimson flesh, and the outer rims contain swollen gums lined with a ring of sharp jagged teeth, several of which are chipped and broken. Closer observation of Yarnaby's true mouth reveals a smaller ring of jagged teeth lining his throat.

Personality[]

According to his weekly check-up, as well as the Prisoner Profile, Yarnaby was originally stated to be docile, agile, and highly impressionable. Unlike the other experiments, the Bigger Bodies version of Yarnaby showed no signs of hostility toward the scientists and staff. Furthermore, he displayed a peculiar semblance of obedience and loyalty towards certain security officers and scientists, including Dr. Harley Sawyer himself. During his isolation sessions with The Doctor, Yarnaby developed an affinity with the latter, perceiving him as his master, which was exactly as Harley intended, though he never cared for Yarnaby.

Following Harley Sawyer's removal, Yarnaby lapsed into an unresponsive state fueled by grief and his wishes for his master's return.

History[]

Quinn Navidson[]

Quinn Navidson, an orphan living in Playcare, gained notoriety among the counselors for his abnormal behavior and mediocre performances at the Game Station. This behavior soon attracted the eye of Dr. Harley Sawyer. Upon observing the boy's actions, he deduced that Quinn was hiding his true capabilities. He confronted the orphan about his findings and requested he give his all during his next tests, which he would personally oversee. Quinn agreed to his request. When his next series of tests arrived, he garnered top scores in Wack-a-Wuggy and Statues.

In August of 1990, Quinn Navidson was selected to become the Bigger Bodies counterpart of Yarnaby, dubbed Experiment 1166.

As Yarnaby[]

Following the procedure, Yarnaby displayed strange indications of fealty to selected members of the security staff. Sawyer figured out that this meant Yarnaby could be molded as he saw fit, and had Yarnaby isolated from all contact apart from with Sawyer himself, causing Yarnaby to form an attachment exclusively with him. Sawyer intended to use Yarnaby as a bodyguard, but following Sawyer's "removal", Yarnaby lapsed into an unresponsive, grief-stricken state. Dr. Carmine McKabe deemed Yarnaby a failure by design, and left it to the higher-ups to decide what to do with him.[1]

Abilities and Anatomy[]

Yarnaby can be presumed to be rather strong, as his body is comparable to a lion. He is also described as being quite fast and agile. His face can split open vertically, revealing two rows of sharp teeth and a small, odd looking inner mouth, presumably based on Huggy's. He is also capable of emitting music in some way as shown in the Chapter 4 Trailer - Yarnaby to alert his presence to the person who supposedly could be The Player. It can be assumed that he has the ability to sew together and fix damaged toys and experiments using his body's own threads, as seen in Chapter 4 Icepick ARG with a Huggy plush sewn together by his threads.

Speculation[]

This article includes information that has been theorized by fans. It is not canon nor confirmed if the information on this page will be/is official!

  • Yarnaby could be part of the Kitty Cat Collection of toys, as lions are part of the feline family which makes him considered a big cat, so he would be the fourth toy in the line with Cat-Bee, Candy Cat and presumably CatNap respectively being the 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
  • Yarnaby probably was an security on the cells, not letting anyone enter or leave the "Prison".

Trivia[]

  • Yarnaby is the first upcoming antagonist whose name was correctly guessed by most fans, though the name was already leaked by Mob Entertainment's trademarks.
  • He, and Pianosaurus are the only two confirmed non-Nightmare Critters characters to appear in Chapter 4.
    • There will probably be more non-Nightmare Critters toys to be confirmed soon, but it's unknown.
    • Though being based on a lion, Yarnaby lacks ears and a tail.
  • His name is a play on the name "Barnaby" and "yarn", referring to the yarn that covers his body.
  • Yarnaby is the second experiment to have a preexisting relationship with a figure of importance, the first being CatNap.
  • Yarnaby is one of four characters who are based on felines. The others being Candy Cat, Cat-Bee, and CatNap.
  • Yarnaby's head splitting could be a reference to the first concept of Bendy from Bendy and The Ink Machine and the Funtime Animatronics from Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location.
    • It could also be a reference to LooLoo the Clown, a Poppy Playtime OC created by MotyaGamesTV as an antagonist in his version of Chapter 4, though it's likely coincidental.
    • His design could possibly be based on Isaac the Lion from Baby Einstein, due to having similar features--like the rainbow hair--and the fact that they're both lions.
  • Yarnaby is the third monster to walk on all fours (i.e., Mommy Long Legs and CatNap), and the first not to have characteristically long legs (excluding the Ruined Critters).
  • Yarnaby is the only Poppy Playtime Monster to open his mouth by his head splitting.
  • Yarnaby's head splitting idea was originally introduced on a Mommy Long Legs design, which her head would split.
  • Yarnaby was the only one that was discovered by a real-life adventure.
  • Yarnaby and Mommy Long Legs are the only monsters that contain hair.
  • Yarnaby is the only known monster to follow Harley Sawyer instead of the Prototype 1006.
  • Yarnaby's design was made by Maxotron.[2]
