The Trash Compactor is a location seen in Poppy Playtime, debuting in Chapter 3: "Deep Sleep". It is the beginning setting for the game upon being thrown into the trash chute by CatNap.
Accessing[]
After the train crash from Chapter 2: "Fly in a Web", CatNap drags The Player's semi-conscious body towards a closed hatch within the room. CatNap opens the hatch with his paws and drops The Player through it, resulting in the player landing into a room compiled with defective props.
After The Player falls into the room, an alarm bell starts blaring before the walls start closing, identifying the room as a trash compactor which was presumably activated by CatNap in an attempt to eliminate The Player.
General appearance[]
The Trash Compactor consists of metal rusted walls with padded rising platforms. It contains catwalks, large pistons, and wooden boards; its singular trash chute consists of a circular metal grated lid with caution strips on it. Upon exiting the area, the following rooms are accented in dark red colors and are primarily built upon rough concrete and metal catwalks. It is evidently flooded with CatNap's "Red Smoke", making navigating through the area a potential hazard if not careful. The small employees-only extension room featured appears more bright with dark cyan accents. It is decorated with a series of Playtime Co. merchandise, food, and products. Despite its somewhat masked through the factory, it appears ransacked, with a series of lockers dishevelled and its built-in bathroom heavily rundown.
History[]
Upon being dropped into the room, any movement will result in an alarm bell blaring as the walls start closing in on The Player.
The Player must climb colorful wooden boards and wait till the trash compactor is halfway through its shutting cycle. Thus, the pistons extrude far enough away from the wall in order for The Player to exit the room. This opening introduces a method of escaping - Grapple Handles. The Player must utilize to pull themselves up with, and in return, they are met with a new parkour puzzle which requires them to do parkour around more pistons while preventing themselves from being crushed by a series of pistons moving towards the wall rather than the floor.
Upon completing this puzzle, The Player is met with another puzzle which consists of pistons moving upwards and downwards. As the pistons lower into the abyss, they are caught in The Red Smoke, adding a new threat to the puzzle. Upon reaching the other side of the broken catwalks through the pistons, CatNap can be seen crawling up a wall. The Player then makes their way towards a ventilation system. They later reach the same room they found themselves being dragged through by CatNap. The Claire Harper Debrief tape sits on the floor as the VCR is placed next to an active television.
This room introduces the Batteries, large, portable energy units which are used to power a series of doors and locations in Playcare. Locating two scattered Power Boxes. The Player uses them to open a door leading into a compact concrete corridor. As they walk through the hallway, they hear a ringing phone in the distance. Upon reaching the phone stuck in its dial, they answer the phone to hear an unknown figure with a child's voice offering assistance and the ability to send objects to the player. The child states their name to be Ollie before he instructs The Player to leave the room and enter the Train Station.
