Touille is one of the Nightmare Critters, a group of eight characters created by Playtime Co. who (presumably) serve as the antithesis of the Smiling Critters. He is featured in Chapter 4: Safe Haven as a minor antagonist with the other Critters as small hostile plush toys.

Appearance

Touille is an anthropomorphic rat, characterized by musty gray fur that complements his thin eyebrows and expressive black eyes, which (like the other Nightmare Critters) are furrowed into a permanent glare. His features extend to a light silver outer mouth and belly, while a touch of salmon pink graces his nose, tail, and the inside of his circular-shaped ears. (His left ear is slightly torn.) His hands and feet are a darker shade of gray. In line with the other Nightmare Critters (and the Smiling Critters), Touille sports a perpetual wide grin with a darkened inner mouth but possesses two front incisors. A black necklace gracefully adorns his center, showcasing a captivating sea-blue fish bone pendant. Touille also emits the scent of petrichor from the little spray applicator in his mouth.

He talks a lot, which is made all the more surprising by him having shockingly little to say. If you ever need someone to provide "insightful" commentary or some random piece of junk, Touille is your guy.	”

According to his Twitter description, Touille is the hoarder of the Nightmare Critters. A self-proclaimed "Trash Rodent", he frequents garbage disposals and other areas of waste to consume and obtain any junk he can get his little paws on. Beyond this unappealing lifestyle of his, Touille is a high-spirited chatterbox. Any chance he gets, he will contribute to a conversation. Unfortunately for him, his conversational skills are extremely inadequate. As a result, he can neither adapt to changing discussion topics nor add to an existing topic.

History

Chapter 4: Safe Haven

In the Toy Graveyard, after The Shelf's gate closes and The Player approaches it, along with the Mini Huggies and other Nightmares Critters, several Touille plush toys appear to attack them, while they defend themselves with Flare Hand. As soon as The Player leaves The Shelf entrance, the attacks subside and the Touille plushies, as well as other Nightmare Critters and Mini Huggies, retreat.

On the East Block's lower floor, on The Doctor's orders, as well as other Nightmare Critters, several Touille plush toys appear to attack The Player, who tries to repel them again using the Flare Hand. After a certain amount of time in which The Player is tested by The Doctor, he uses a sound of Yarnaby's roar, causing the Touille plush toys, as well as the Nightmare Critters and Mini Huggies, to retreat.

While The Player searches for a lever in the Kitchen, a Touille plush toy appears in a room containing the lever they need. Upon entering the room, The Player scares the plush toy away with Flare Hand.

As The Player leaves the Secondary Lab, a Touille plush jumpscares them and knocks off their Gas Mask, taking it away for the remainder of the journey. In the Holding Area, while the Player is being chased by the big Baba Chops, a big Touille is found inside one of the cages guarding a Power Cell.

As The Player walks through the Foundation cave to collect explosives, several Touille plush toys, as well as other Nightmare Critters plush toys, and Mini Huggies reappear and attack them as they advances, forcing them to defend themself and counterattack using the Flare Hand.

Trivia

• Touille was the seventh Nightmare Critter to have his description revealed on Twitter (X).
• Touille is the second Critter to not have another word in his name, as every other Critter (aside from Poe) has at least one other word.
• Touille's name is a direct reference to the Disney/Pixar film Ratatouille as his name is taken from the last seven letters of the title.
  • The main protagonist of that film, Remy, is also a rat.
  • Touille’s name is also a reference to the dish Ratatouille, a French cuisine made from vegetables and herbs, which inspired the name of the movie.
  • Touille's name can also be named after the onomatopoeia of one grossly spitting something out: "ptooey."
• The scent of petrichor is said to relieve stress, enhance a person's mood, and improve mental clarity.
• Touille, Baba Chops, and Allister Gator are the only critters who display a specific type of bone in their pendants. In Touille's case, his pendant is a fish bone.
  • Being a conversationalist, his fish-bone pendant could also double as a windsor knot necktie.
• According to his character description, Touille's name is pronounced "two-ee".
• Despite being said to be a rat, Touille's appearance resembles more of a mouse than a rat.
• His inverse could potentially be CatNap because Touille is a trash-talking chatterbox who rambles on about everything, while CatNap is the quiet and reserved one of his respective group.
• He has the longest tail of the Nightmare Critters.
