The Story So Far: Chapter 3 is a recording that cannot be played or even seen in any area inside the games. It's exclusively seen on Mob Entertainment's YouTube channel.
The video retells the story of Chapter 3: Deep Sleep of Poppy Playtime, and is narrated by a familiar-sounding narrator. It also contains several hints that led to the Chapter 4 Icepick ARG.
Analysis[]
The tape begins with the black screen and redacted date (XX-XX-2005) from the previous tapes. Meanwhile, Playtime Co.'s security system creates a third security log. This time, the system documents a "flow reversal" activated in the Gas Production Zone, referring to The Player's redirection of the Red Smoke.
The camera then cuts to footage of a quadrupedal monster walking toward a trash chute, carrying the semi-conscious intruder below him. As they fall into the Trash Compactor, a familiar voice reveals the creature's experiment number and name: 1188, CatNap. The narrator remarks that the intruder's foiled escape plan and lack of companions meant they could only press forward. The scene transitions to a door on the area's upper floor, with an incessant ringing heard in the background.
Eventually, The Player discovers the source of the noise: a working mobile Telephone (the appearance of which had been influenced by the eccentric nature of Playtime Co.) Before they pick up the phone, the narrator states that what awaited them on the other end was an ally, an ally he deemed "infuriating". This mysterious companion was a young child named Ollie, who, to ensure the trespasser's survival, appointed himself as their guide. Their newfound communication device in hand, the intruder continues their odyssey. They come across a secondary but damaged Train Station with both of its entrances blocked: one by rubble, the other by the burning wreckage of the Train.
Undeterred, they pull themselves up to the station's platform, climbing a brief set of stairs to reach Elliot's Express, a cable car ride. They enter the car and ride it to their destination: Playcare, Playtime's on-site orphanage, which the narrator also refers to as "Elliot Ludwig's grand beacon of hope." Footage of the intruder on Elliot's Express and entering Playcare is shown during the narration.
The camera switches to The Player entering the facility's generator room, where they receive a key from Ollie. According to the narrator, this key gave the former employee access to the Gas Production Zone, which contained "the still beating heart of Playcare." This referred to the enigmatic Red Smoke. The narrator remarks that the intruder learned little about its history from Ollie. They only learned that it blocked an exit, meaning they had to redirect the gas. As they start the diversion process at the room's console, the narrator states that "All that seemed left was the push of a button," However, Playcare suddenly undergoes a blackout, effectively halting the process at the halfway point. Ollie reveals the blackout was intentional; the generator had been damaged by an unknown assailant. Fortunately, Playcare contained backup generators in each of its core locations.
The subsequent scene shows the ex-employee approaching the Home Sweet Home building, the location of a backup generator. During their entrance into the building, the narrator divulges some insight into the sites history; he states that CatNap was once a key component in Home Sweet Home's protocols, as his Red Smoke lulled the orphans into slumber at night. But now, the place had transformed into a "nightmare." To reflect this statement, The Player's journey through a hallucination-induced version of Home Sweet Home (brought out by Red Smoke inhalation) is shown, with the final scene revealing a distorted version of Huggy Wuggy exiting a TV before cutting to black.
The intruder soon wakes up and continues their search for the generator while the narrator discusses the concept of trust. He states the fact that trust can be earned quickly, yet it can be broken quickly as well, referencing the betrayal in the Train. Meanwhile, the intruder finds and activates the generator. Their objective complete, they exit the building and walk down the steps. As the narrator completes his discussion, "But what we make of those who've broken that trust is a very... individual viewpoint", the intruder reunites with Kissy Missy, who immediately forces them onto the ground; the camera feed cuts to black a second later.
Soon, Poppy Playtime's voice is heard, who informs Kissy that the former employee is innocent. The next scene reveals Poppy and The Player riding an elevator to the Sky Dome, with Kissy joining the two. Poppy informs them that she is truly their ally, but their leave would have derived her of getting revenge on their torturers. Therefore, she could not let them escape, as she needed them. When the group reaches the top, they restore the power to Playcare before briefly parting ways.
Eventually, The Player accumulates enough power to collect the Master Battery. As they return to the Gas Production Zone, power source in hand, the narrator comments that they must have felt unstoppable... before everything comes crashing down. They are only a few feet away from the console before CatNap emerges in front of them. The following transitional footage shows 1188 filling the room with Red Smoke, which alters the intruder's vision and makes CatNap appear much more horrifying. The situation forces them to flee to the Safe Room, but this time, they face CatNap head-on.
While the intruder uses the room's mechanisms and their GrabPack 2.0 to stave off CatNap's advances, the narrator reflects on the human mind, viewing it as a fascinating subject. He remarks that everyone believes they are important and invincible, but their naivete blinds them to the truth: they are nothing but weak. However, he reveals that people sporadically reveal a hidden strength when backed into a corner. As the intruder finally faces 1188 head-on - their Green Hand overcharged and ready - the narrator observes that their strength surpassed all others. With this observation, The Player fires the overcharged hand onto CatNap's body, with the latter collapsing to the ground. When he attempts to release his Red Smoke, he inadvertently sets himself ablaze; the camera quickly cuts to black as CatNap's screams are heard.
As The Player enters the Hatch Room, the narrator states that his observation link back to Poppy. With her reappearance... was the answer to the mystery that started their journey: What happened to the ex-employee’s co-workers? Poppy reveals this answer to be a simple VHS tape, one containing security footage of an incident the toys called "The Hour of Joy." As the contents are shown, both Poppy and the narrator state: "The guilty... The innocent... didn't matter. The experiments killed everyone."
After this revelation, Poppy invites the intruder onto the lift to head deeper into the facility; Kissy Missy sends them down, though they promise to send the lift back up to her. During the descent, Poppy attempts to inform The Player of a danger at their destination, but she is interrupted by Kissy's screams. Despite the duo's attempt to return for her, the hatch ultimately closes, cutting them off from their ally.
The next scene shows a security monitor displaying the lift closing, as the narrator comments that this event leads to the present moments. The shot slowly widens, revealing the monitor to be part of a control room, and the narrator (now with a strange echo in his voice) gives one last statement: "Down they come... Like lambs to the slaughter."
As he begins to laugh sinisterly, the monitor reveals the date of the next outbound transmission: September 30, 2024.
With this reveal, the tape fades to black and ends.

Findings[]
Around three minutes and fifty-eight seconds into the tape, two hidden frames were shown. The first frame contained a lengthy string of binary text. However, fans had to solve the last code first.
The last frame appeared precisely two frames after the first, giving a second but smaller string of binary text. Once decoded, players got the phrase "25x25". This phrase provided dimensions for the first code, meaning the binary text was an encoded image. After plugging the binary text into an image generator, using "25" for the image's size, players revealed a QR code. This code, once scanned, gave the text string "tem ydaeria evah ew roF", which reversed is "For we had already met." This sentence, when combined with the poem from the previous story recaps, completed the poem, which was a five-line stanza. The line "For we have already met" could refer to Huggy Wuggy.
sleep draws ever near.
Over paths turning clear,
but I am not afraid of death.
Trivia[]
- The events that transpired in the School, Playhouse and Counselor's Office are omitted from the video.
- During the beginning portion of the video, the narrator calls Ollie "infuriating", possibly referencing the negative reaction players had to his voice and inclusion, with a few developers sharing this opinion.[2]
A beta or edited version of the School's Generator Room, as seen at the 1:51 mark.
- Although the video's generator-searching portion is set in Home Sweet Home, the scene of The Player powering the generator is taken from the School. Plus, the room is, seemingly, a beta version of the finalized concept, as there is no power pole for the GrabPack 2.0 to loop around.
