The Resource Extraction Specialists, or simply Specialists, and previously referred to as Survivors prior to Phase 3, are the main protagonists of Project: Playtime. Specialists act as one of two parties to choose from during gameplay. Their role is to collect six toy parts in a round without being eliminated. Out of the 7 players, 6 players will be Specialists, while the other becomes the monster.

Appearance[]

Similarly to The Player's in-game model in Poppy Playtime, the Specialists seen within Project: Playtime appear as blank, humanoid mannequins. Their sophisticated joints can be seen throughout their shoulders, knees, foot joints, and feet. They are depicted with GrabPacks strapped across their back and arms. Their default color is yellow, which is able to be customized by the player, alongside a vast number of cosmetics and GrabPacks that allow for unique appearances in-game.

In Project: Playtime's Cinematic Trailer and Poppy Playtime's tape '93 Theater Incident, the specialists are shown as humans wearing protective suits that cover their entire bodies, come in several colors, and have the logo of Playtime Co. on their shoulder. They all also with GrabPacks strapped across their back and arms.

Personalities[]

Though they do not speak, they are shown to be intelligent, adept at solving puzzles, and coordinating themselves as a team to complete their objectives. They are also cowardly, choosing not to fight or engage the monsters, instead attempting to hide or get as far away from them as possible when being chased. Each Specialist have different personalities, because they are different people, and have different opinions on clothing and monsters.

History[]

Project: Playtime[]

After Playtime Co. was abandoned on August 8th, 1995, during or after The Hour of Joy, Leith Pierre hires a series of Resource Extraction Specialists to enter the factory and build giant toys seen scattered throughout the maps featured within Project: Playtime to continue the Bigger Bodies Initiative. However, during this process, the Resource Extraction Specialists encounter the monsters Playtime Co. created, resulting in them swiftly attempting to extract Toy Parts while running from Monsters lurking throughout the factory.

Abilities[]

Primarily Ability[]

Roll

Perks[]

The Specialists are equipped with a series of Perks that act as effective passives that Specialists can utilize to act and move more efficiently. Perks can be bought and selected when editing the Specialist via the main menu alongside the pre-game menu. Many Perks can be purchased and equipped at your disposal, with a player having up to three perks active at one time. Purchasing said Perks require Toy Tickets, which can be obtained from simple actions throughout gameplay.

Trivia[]

  • When Chapter 2: "Fly in a Web" was released for Poppy Playtime, individually colored Player models were found in the files, alongside a variety of other assets. It was theorized at the time that a multiplayer mode was in development for the game, followed by Project: Playtime being announced and released by the end of the year.
  • On the Developer Q&A podcast viewed on the Mob Entertainment YouTube Channel, developer Ben Pavlovits revealed that more movement mechanics similar to the Roll ability are being considered for Project: Playtime.[1]
  • Despite their appearance of a customizable (yellow by default) mannequin, the Specialists are humans.
