| — Doey the Doughman referring to the Safe Haven toys, Chapter 4: Safe Haven | ||
The Safe Haven is a major location seen in Chapter 4: Safe Haven of Poppy Playtime.
This location was controlled by Doey the Doughman and used to keep the remaining passive, friendly toys safe from the dangers of the Playtime Co. factory. The location had its own generator, thus being outside of The Doctor's control.
History[]
Backstory[]
The Safe Haven was constructed in or around 1993 by Warrenbach Construction to serve as a defensible central location for Playtime Co.'s Security.[2] It was located by The Shelf, which was constructed around the same time.[3]
After The Hour of Joy in 1995, Poppy Playtime teamed up with Doey the Doughman to keep all the passive toys safe from the danger of The Prototype and the other rabid, deranged toys. Sometime later, Poppy, the toys' leader, left the group and was subsequently locked inside her case by The Prototype, while Doey took command in her absence. At some point, this group of toys formed an alliance with the toys resisting the Prototype's control inside Playcare, amongst which were DogDay, Hoppy Hopscotch and presumably the rest of the Bigger Bodies Smiling Critters, save for CatNap, exchanging supplies and helping each other out.
In late 2004, the toys took refuge in the Safe Haven. The area ran on its own power grid, so it was safe from The Prototype's new "ally", The Doctor, who had taken control over most of The Shelf after the event, using an Omni-Hand taken from the Warden to do as he pleased. Shortly before this, however, Hoppy Hopscotch passed away.
Chapter 4: Safe Haven[]
In 2005, Poppy, now free from her case thanks to The Player inadvertently releasing her, brought Kissy Missy and The Player, who was revisiting the factory to search for the company's missing staff, into Safe Haven and met up with Doey and the others. Safe Haven's residents, however, did not trust Poppy, as she had "abandoned" them before. Poppy informed Doey of her plan to destroy the entire factory and The Prototype with it, but he was reluctant to agree, not wanting his "family" to die. By this point, most toys inside Safe Haven were starving, probably as a result of the Doctor's actions, as he was stated to be intentionally hurting them, and the generator was soon going to fail, which meant that they would lose their means of protection.
Later on, after finally killing Sawyer, The Player managed to jumpstart the generator using the Doctor's Omni-Hand, but The Prototype supposedly arrived outside of Safe Haven, and Doey exited to hold him off. Eventually, Doey lost track of The Prototype after chasing him down into the abandoned mines, which proved to be a grave mistake, as The Prototype was simply luring Doey away from the haven. The Player had unknowingly rigged the generator under Ollie's instructions,[4] and Safe Haven exploded, with everyone inside being killed, except for Poppy and Kissy, who managed to escape. Seeing this, Doey's mental state broke, and, in a rage, he chased down The Player, who was forced to kill him using a crushing machine.

Trivia[]
- Safe Haven is the first time where passive and friendly versions of the Mini Smiling Critters and Mini Huggies are seen.
- It has the same name as the Chapter it debuts in.
- Without the generator, any hostile toy is capable of breaking in and killing everyone inside. If the Player hadn't used the Doctor's Omni-Hand to turn it back on, this is probably what The Prototype would have done.
- A music video made by Mob Entertainment in collaboration with Black Gryph0n and Baasik shows this happening, as well as implying that The Prototype actually manipulated the Player into accidentally setting the generator to explode.
- A number of side quests involving the inhabitants of Safe Haven were cut from the final game, across the two visits they make:
- After the first visit:
- Doey would have asked the Player to retrieve a book called "The Adventures of the Word Wizard".
- The Player would have been tasked with getting Izzy, a Bobby BearHug, a birthday cake.[5]
- The Player would have been asked to burn rosemary to honor those who have died so far.
- After the second visit, following the death of the Doctor:
- The Player would have been asked to pose for Odd Ed so that he could draw a portrait of them.
- The Player would be asked to help KickinChicken get revenge, though on who or for why is not known.
- After the first visit:
