| “ | I don't know how little or how much my life mattered, but I can do this. This one thing. Maybe it'll save someone. Anyone. Even just one person. That would be enough. Nobody else should hear what I've had to hear inside this place. Nobody else should know hell like this, or the demons that live there. | ” |
| — Riley, Riley Journal | ||
Riley is a minor character who appears in Chapter 4: Safe Haven. The Player can find multiple pages from her journal scattered around the Toy Graveyard before ultimately coming across her body. She was a child who entered Playcare in August 1994 at age 12 after her parents died in a fire. She was later turned into an experiment.
Appearance[]
Details on Riley's appearance before being turned into a toy are not given. Her corpse shows that post-transformation, she had bright pink fur and her fingers were tied together, as with all Kissy Missy and PJ Pug-a-Pillar toys. Ten years after her death, her body has significantly decayed, with most of her fur having fallen off, revealing her bones. Her eyes are sunken and blackened with small amounts of skin and flesh left around them. Strangely, her limbs are missing.
History[]
Backstory[]
When she was 12, Riley's parents were killed in a fire, so, two weeks later, she was sent to Playcare. There, she tried to get along with other children, and she kept a journal, adding two lists to each entry after a counselor suggested to do so. She hoped to be "chosen" for what she presumed was adoption. In early 1995, she was indeed chosen, but, to her surprise, she woke up days later in a body that was not her own, remembering flashes of being cut open and having her organs removed. After that, she was locked up in a prison cell, in which she spent several months alone.[2]
The Hour of Joy[]
During The Hour of Joy, Riley remained inside her room, listening to what was going on through a hole in the wall. She ventured outside after the noise died down, only to discover the Toy Graveyard, which caused her to panic and return to her cell. Some time later, she tried to get help from the crane's operator, who was, however, dead. Riley soon realized that she was in a prison alongside many other people who had also been turned into toys. Refusing to eat the bodies of the dead employees to survive, Riley resigned herself to starvation. As her last act, she took the key from the body of the conductor at the prison's train station, intending to hide it in the hopes of preventing the train from ever bringing anyone else to the prison.[2]
Theorizing[]
- Due to The Player finding it sticking out of her torso, it appears that Riley hid the prison train key by swallowing it.
- Tragically, it is implied that Riley was ultimately attacked and eaten by another experiment after writing her last journal entry. A large blood stain is found on the side of one of the train cars, and a trail of smeared blood leads from the initial splatter, over the top of the cars and into the hanging cell where Riley's remains are found. More blood is splattered on the walls surrounding what is left of her. This would unfortunately explain her missing limbs and completely hollowed-out torso that lacks even any mummified organs.
- Riley is speculated to have been made into an iteration of Kissy Missy due to her corpse's pink fur and lack of resemblance to any other known toy. Despite this, the skull notably does not match that of Kissy or any Huggy Wuggy-based toy, being much thicker and containing far less teeth, so others have speculated that she was made into a PJ Pug-a-Pillar toy. Despite this, none of these have been confirmed yet.
Trivia[]
The "nice counselor" that suggested she add two lists to her journal entries is Claire Harper, as seen in her second journal entry.
