Rich Lovitz

After years of being ignored, the company actually heard all my complaints!
Rich, Cyan VHS Tape

Richard "Rich" Lovitz[1] is a recurring character in Poppy Playtime, debuting in Chapter 1: "A Tight Squeeze".

Hired at Playtime Co. at some point, Rich's gruff personality and short temper would leave him with very few allies at the company. Rich, in turn, was vexed by how Playtime ran their company, as some of their questionable decisions impeded his job performance.

During a shift in the storeroom, Rich vocalized his complaints to a fellow coworker after being unable to locate boxes containing Huggy Wuggy toys. As per the F.U.N.F.A.C.T.O.R.Y. guidelines, Rich was reported to Security, who notified Human Resources of what transpired and gave their recommendation for his punishment.[1] HR complied with Security's recommendation, demoting him to the Rejected Room, much to his frustration.

Eventually, things take a turn for the better. During one of Rich's shifts, where he and his fellow coworker Stuart are delivering a toy shipment to Playcare, Stuart reveals that he selected Rich as his replacement, due to his (at the time) upcoming retirement.

Personality[]

Rich seems to be a hard but disgruntled worker, which players can conclude from the fact that he became annoyed by the amount of pressure put on him. Aside from the pressure, he still cares about the orphans for whom the toys are intended for, which shows he's good at heart. In the Yellow VHS Tape, he is deemed as the more vocal one and is always complaining, while Avery is essentially trying to make him calm down.

Rich's gruff nature and pessimistic attitude leaves him (unfortunately) with very few friends at the company, something that he has acknowledged.

History[]

Security Camera: Rich + Avery[]

In Chapter 1: "A Tight Squeeze", Rich rants about the incompetence of Playtime Co. when it comes to managing their shipments, briefly losing his temper before being calmed down by Avery. He acknowledges the company's orphan program is for a good cause, but wishes it didn't cause more shipments to pile up. It's implied that Avery reported Rich for these comments, resulting in Rich's demotion to the Rejected Room.[1]

Security Camera: Rich[]

In Chapter 2: "Fly in a Web", after his demotion, Rich remarked about how he supposedly complained to the company for years with no response, leaving him more angered and stressed. Despite this, he still hung out with Avery on Fridays, revealed on a nearby post-it note stating, "Have lunch with Avery Fri."

Stuart And Rich[]

In Chapter 3: "Deep Sleep", Rich showcases an effort to control his temper on behalf of his wife, something his fellow colleague Stuart takes notice of. Additionally, he becomes a favored but currently unofficial candidate for Stuart's position when he soon retired, the former expressing his surprise at this decision.

Trivia[]

  • There is another theory that is the complete opposite, that Rich is actually Exp. 1006, the Prototype, due to him getting angry toward other employees.
  • Rich is not given a last name in the game, but it is revealed to be Lovitz in the Orientation Notebook.
