Poppy Playtime Maintenance is a restricted tutorial that cannot be played or even seen in any area inside the game. It is also the teaser trailer for Poppy Playtime, exclusively seen on Mob Entertainment's YouTube channel.
The tape plays out as a step-by-step, vintage tutorial initially meant to be released alongside the packaged Poppy Playtime Doll, although didn't make the final cut as a disturbing, gore-y scene was slipped into the original tutorial as a step for maintenance.
Analysis[]
The tape starts with an ear-blaring, loud alarm sound as a warning card overlays the introduction to the tape, warning unsolicited viewers to refrain from watching the tape. The card seems to have been intentionally added by Playtime Co. themselves, as on the top of the card it states, "Display card in event of unsolicited users". The tape continues as a normal tutorial, listing off steps.
STEP 1: apply paint to her face[]
The first step of the tape states, "STEP 1: apply paint to her face". A scene of a human, assumed employee is seen holding a paint spray utility, moving the tool around her face to apply said paint to her face. Poppy Playtime simply sits on her chair as this happens.
STEP 2: polish her shoes[]
The second step of the tape states, "STEP 2: polish her shoes". The camera cuts to a scene facing Poppy's shoes, showcasing an employee' clean her shoes with a white cloth. The employee does this for many seconds before stopping to reveal Poppy's shiny, glossy shoes.
STEP 5: brush her hair[]
The tape itself cuts two parts for no particular reason, skipping all the way to the fifth step, which states. "STEP 5: brush her hair". As with the two tapes we had viewed, an employee is seen using a Playtime Co.-themed brush to brush Poppy Playtime's two pigtails.
STEP []:[]
This step does not have a number nor a subtitle. Poppy is seen leaning back as the assumed employee slowly pulls the tweezers towards the camera. The scene cuts to the aftermath, revealing a bloody voice-box coming from Poppy Playtime's back. The employee pauses as they witness what was just pulled from her back. However, swiftly, the screen suddenly goes black and a line of text reads "LET ME GO" multiple times vertically for a split second. Poppy's widen pupils can be seen to the far right of the same screen.
The tape then cuts back to the initially recorded tape, claiming Poppy is all better now, directly quote states, "she is all better now". A final scene shows Poppy Playtime sitting on her wooden chair while the camera faces her. The tape then ends with an advertisement for the official release of the first chapter.
Transcript[]
Due to the fact that the tape only plays static, having visual representation rather than expressive representation, the transcript will be formatted similarly to the Galleries. Scenes from the tape can be seen below.
PLEASE note that the disturbing, gore-y scene is indeed listed here.
Trivia[]
- When the unsolicited viewer warning is played, the same message, "Do not continue viewing this tape." is listed in three languages. One in English, once in Russian, and once in German. The German transcript is as follows in all capital letters: "BEENDEN SIE DIE ANZEIGE DIESES BANDES SOFORT".
- When translated, it states "STOP VIEWING THIS TAPE IMMEDIATELY" which sounds more urgent than "Do not continue viewing this tape."
- This tape was created before Poppy Playtime was released, meaning to be a trailer for the game's first chapter.
