Overview |
The Playtime Co. Digital Collectible Release is an announcement that cannot be played or even seen in any area inside the game. It was exclusively seen on Mob Entertainment's YouTube channel before being removed and discontinued due to controversy.
The tape is an announcement related to the now-discontinued digital collectibles. These collectibles would all provide insight into Mommy Long Legs, Chapter 2's intimidating antagonist once purchased.
Analysis
After a VHS Tape is heard being inserted into a VCR player, Leith Pierre is heard preparing by repeating his iconic catchphrase multiple times, failing to do so until he finally realizes the camera is rolling. He presents the viewer to the digital collectibles, loosely revealing the 7 collectibles.
Leith informs us that there are only 5000 of each poster, continuing to list off many posters such as Huggy Wuggy, Candy Cat, and Poppy before the tape glitches to reveal the back of the Orphans Poster, displaying the "Innovation is Key" catchphrase.
The tape continues after this unintended scene, skipping Boogie Bot and Kissy Missy before reaching the Bron poster. Pierre then tells the viewer that each poster includes a secret VHS tape. As Leith Pierre says this, the tape glitches again to say the following:
FOLLOWING INFORMATION MUST NOT BE DISCLOSED
SECRET MESSAGES HIDDEN ON BACK OF EACH CARD
While this unintended part plays, a robotic voice exclaims the two letters "I, O," referencing two of the many letters featured within each tape.
Leith Pierre attempts to convince the viewer into buying the product by including a seventh poster for free after buying all six posters. Leith Pierre does this due to his "heart being that bunion-esque."
Leith Pierre concludes the tape by revealing the date the collectibles are released and informing viewers to buy them before the collectibles go out of stock. The tape was intended to end at this point, but Leith Pierre can be heard disciplining a boom operator named Sharon due to their lack of knowledge about how to turn off a running microphone. It is implied they had gotten fired, as he states that "you left the microphone on like an idiot last time, and idiots get fired."

Puzzles
When buying one of the six puzzles, you would obtain a VHS tape. These VHS tapes would list four individual letters, and buying all six posters alongside the seventh poster reveals a series of letters to unscramble. All six posters include the following letters:
G, E, N, M, C, G, M, L, O, M, I, O, S, O, Y, M, N, L, I, G, S.
When the sentence was successfully unscrambled, the sentence "Mommy Long Legs is coming" was revealed. Developers later confirmed that this was the answer.[Citation needed] This teaser revealed Chapter 2: Fly in the Web's stretchable and intimidating antagonist, Mommy Long Legs.
Reception
The majority of the fans were not happy with Mob Entertainment's choice to sell Digitable Collectibles for lore. One of the criticisms was the fact that the collectibles were actually NFTs. Below is an explanation of what an NFT is.
A NFT/non-fungible token is a unique and non-interchangeable unit of data stored on a digital ledger. NFTs can be associated with easily-reproducible items such as photos, videos, audio, and other types of digital files as unique items, and use blockchain technology to give the NFT a public proof of ownership. However, They consume a lot of energy not only to mint but to verify the blockchain with each transaction.
Yet another criticism was the fact that, in order to figure out what the content behind the collectibles was, you were required to buy all six posters. Fans were not keen on the fact that you were required to pay real-life currency in order to reveal the secret. Mob Entertainment has confirmed that they have left this project behind, but they were unable to remove the product even after contacting the domain holders.[1]
