Miss Delight is a mascot created by Playtime Co. who appeared in Chapter 3: Deep Sleep as a secondary antagonist.
Sometime in the 1990s, Miss Delight, alongside seven other identical dolls, was created by the Innovation department.[6] They were assigned to Playcare's School to provide the orphans living there a proper education. Each teacher taught a different subject covered in Playtime's curriculum; Miss Delight's subject was anatomy. During their tenure, the teachers formed a strong bond with one another and viewed themselves as sisters.
By 1995, Miss Delight and her sisters shared the experiments' desire for freedom. For this reason, they joined the rebellion of the Bigger Bodies experiments on August 8, 1995. A few weeks later, CatNap - either acting of his own accord or following an order from The Prototype - locked the sisters inside the School to lessen their numbers through starvation, and to protect the surviving orphans from them. During this period, Miss Delight created her weapon, "Barb", as her hunger and paranoia steadily increased, which climaxed upon her killing and eating her sisters to survive.
Now the only survivor left, Miss Delight was freed by CatNap and brokered a deal with him, becoming one of 1006's allies in exchange for protection. Following her imprisonment, she inhabited the School and suffered from her traumatic memories of cannibalizing her sisters; she was ultimately driven to insanity by the time The Player returned to Playtime in 2005. Upon their intrusion into her domain, she initially warned them to leave the premises. When they ignored her warning, she destroyed the building's backup generator and attempted to take their life. Despite blocking the way they came in and destroying their objective, Miss Delight could not defeat The Player, who crushed her head underneath a metal rolling gate, ultimately killing the insane teacher.
Appearance[]
Miss Delight has shimmering golden hair with a crimson bow tie perched atop of her head, with red, rosy cheeks as well. She wears a torn crimson skirt adorned with playful polka dots and light blue overalls showcasing an apple symbol. Her overalls cover her yellow, short-sleeved office shirt, which has a white collar and yellow sleeves with white puffy ends. A crimson tie can be seen accentuating her office shirt. Her once smiling grin is now completely broken, exposing the now dirty flesh and teeth underneath. Part of her shirt is torn and dirty, which likely occurred during The Hour of Joy.
Her shoes are encased in a pair of crimson hues, and have intricate blue embroidery on them. Her body is made up of several segments on different joints, resembling that of a ball-jointed doll.
She wields a makeshift morning star[7] called "Barb". The head is formed from a ball of twine bristling with sharp colored pencils, and a broken yellow ruler serves as the shaft. Both the head and the sharp end of the handle are covered in dried blood.
Personality[]
| “ | Created alongside numerous other teacher toys, Miss Delight’s job was to teach children the Playcare-approved curriculum at the Schoolhouse and enforce the rules. Alongside her trusty weapon, Barb, she now enforces a much stricter set of rules under the Prototype, attacking anyone who trespasses on school grounds. | ” |

Based on her cutout and intercom message, Miss Delight was a very kind and gentle teacher, who always spoke in a sweet voice. Eager to spread knowledge to the children of Playcare, Miss Delight encouraged students to inquire her and her sisters with questions they had regarding their topics of interest.

However, after The Hour of Joy, she started to descend into madness. Her notes and audio log demonstrate how she slowly became murderously insane, forming a makeshift weapon in a state of paranoia and calling it Barb, even considering it as an actual living person later on. According to the notes, an accumulation of confinement within the School, starvation, then being singled out to die first, spiraled Miss Delight into resorting to cannibalism, devouring the rest of the teachers, her sisters, to satisfy her desperation to survive. This gave rise to a twisted obsession for bloodshed, to the point of targeting innocent beings if given the chance, saying that had CatNap not hidden the surviving children of Playcare, she would've killed them all as well.
Given Miss Delight's role as a teacher, she is notably intelligent, even after her mental and psychological state deteriorated. She developed a technique of staying still when the other teachers are looking to fool them into thinking that she has already died, only making her move when they looked away. She is also intuitive enough to not immediately attack and try to kill CatNap, suppressing her rage and frustration when first meeting him, knowing that he she's not capable of doing such a thing at that moment. She instead opted to making a deal with him, looking out for each other and reporting what they see to each other and presumably to The Prototype, it being the best way to ensure her survival in Playcare.
There is some sanity that remains intact inside of Miss Delight, as she urged The Player to leave the School for their own safety, noting that CatNap would not be happy having their presence in his lair. However, her senses were overrun by the need to consume, eroding her control over her desire for slaughter.
History[]
Backstory[]
Miss Delight was one of at least eight identical constructs who viewed each other as sisters, serving as teachers for Playcare. Mini experiment versions of the toy were also created.[8]
Post-Hour of Joy[]
A few weeks after The Hour of Joy, the teachers felt unnerved by the quietness that followed and how the smallest sounds felt louder than they really were, and they were constantly startling each other. Eventually, they discovered that they were locked within the School by something and couldn't find a way to get out.[9]
Miss Delight believed she heard something breathing on the other side of the door. Wondering what could be outside and fearing it coming in, she created her signature weapon named "Barb" which she had made out of pencils and twine.[10]
Sometime afterward, Miss Delight went days without food due to her sisters blocking access to the kitchen, leading Miss Delight to suspect that she was singled out to die.[11]
As time went on, she slowly went insane out of ravenous hunger and started to consider her weapon as an actual person. "Barb" eventually "taught" Miss Delight that if she stopped moving and stood very still, her sisters would assume she was dead, and she would be able to attack them when they were vulnerable.[12]
Miss Delight relied on Barb’s supposed advice to ambush the other teachers (and later on, to attempt to use it on The Player) and consume them to satisfy her hunger, howling about how she "had to".[13]
Sometime later, she found the door unlocked and met CatNap, whom she surmised was the one who locked the door, and while she was furious at him, she begrudgingly held back on attacking him. He revealed to her that the orphans were safe but refused to let her see them. Regardless, the two formed an uneasy truce afterwards, both relaying what they saw to each other and presumably to The Prototype. She would continue to roam around the School until the eventual return of The Player in 2005.[14]
Chapter 3: Deep Sleep[]
The Player's first encounter with Miss Delight is through the PA system, her voice echoing through like a pre-recorded message. Later, as The Player is crawling under a desk, they catch a glimpse of Miss Delight walking across the hall. As they are still reeling from this encounter when Miss Delight's voice booms over the PA again. She is curious, demanding to know how The Player is still alive, while warning them to "leave for their own safety". The Player ignores her warning, pressing on through the abandoned School. They soon reach a point, a door that leads to a dark and forbidding area. Miss Delight's voice crackles over the PA again, mocking The Player for not listening to her instructions and wondering what their screams would sound like.
The Player powers on the generator, hoping to illuminate their path. Suddenly, the door bursts open and Miss Delight strides into the room and damages the generator with Barb, sending its battery flying across the room. With the generator destroyed, the halls are plunged into a flickering darkness again. Miss Delight chases The Player.
Miss Delight's death.
Finally, The Player reaches the exit to the maintenance area. Upon the view of her prey possibly escaping, Miss Delight drops her "weeping angel" façade, chasing them down. Eventually, they find a lever and pull it, setting the door to close. As Miss Delight madly sprints after them, she attempts to stop herself (shown in slow motion), but fails as the door crushes her head, killing her instantly.
Trivia[]
- Miss Delight's movement mechanic was inspired by the Weeping Angels from the Doctor Who franchise, who have the same gimmick: not moving when someone is looking directly at them.
- Miss Delight's job as a teacher might also be inspired by Baldi, the main antagonist of the Baldi's Basics series, who shares a similar idea of a teacher hunting down the player. The mechanic is also similar to that of the Glamrock Endos in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach.
- In the pre-release trailer, Miss Delight would only move when the lights were off and freeze when the lights flickered back on.
- Playtesters confirmed that this mechanic was changed as it was reported as unbalanced, with the developers fixing her into a Weeping Angel in the final product.
- A lore-based reason as to why this mechanic was changed could come from a note that describes how her method of attacking was to stand very still, appearing dead to her prey.
- When the game was released, some YouTubers received a build where Miss Delight retained her old mechanic as opposed to moving when she wasn't being observed.
- Miss Delight may be a reference to the real-life Barbie doll, as she is built like a pose-able, plastic doll.
- Additionally, her weapon is dubbed "Barb", which is presumably due to its barbed appearance, although, the name could be a double entendre.
- According to a note, when arguing with her sisters about food, Miss Delight was the one to be 'singled out', meaning that the other teachers would exclude her eating and seemed to have planned for Miss Delight to die first.
- Her movement patterns are explained in Note #4. When The Player looks directly at her, she doesn't move, because according to her, others think she's dead if she stays completely still and her victims won't see her coming when they turn their backs.
- Although it is never stated, it is implied that the reason CatNap doesn't go into the School is likely due to how greatly disturbed he is by Miss Delight's unhinged nature.
- According to prior information, Miss Delight is one of Zach Belanger's favorite characters.
- When the second gameplay trailer was released, fans speculated that Miss Delight was a bird due to her silhouette.
- In her cardboard cutout, she relays facts on anatomy, implying that she taught science before The Hour of Joy.
- A "fixed" version of Miss Delight can be found out-of-bounds in the School section.
- While not used in-game, the model is used in The Hour of Joy tape, which shows Miss Delight and her sisters attacking employees.
- The model is heavily rigged, which may imply that it was originally intended to have a greater purpose before being left behind.
- If The Player pulls the lever before entering the final room in the School, Miss Delight's death animation will play regardless of where they are. Thus, they will be soft-locked due to the metal gate blocking the hallway.
- This can be easily fixed by having her jumpscare The Player when she runs down the hall and encounters them.
- Miss Delight's real teeth aren't the same as the teeth in her undamaged form, suggesting she tore off her fake teeth to eat her sisters.
- Another option would be that, since all experiments need to eat, her teeth would separate to show her real mouth and thus allow her to eat, but now it is damaged probably because she lost these false teeth in the fights against her sisters or pulled them out to eat more easily.
- Miss Delight never speaks when encountered, and can only be heard over the loudspeaker. Although, she does growl while chasing The Player.
- If The Player returns to the area where Miss Delight was killed, they'll find that her body is no longer there, suggesting that The Prototype has taken it.
- Miss Delight is the first monster to resemble a human being.
- Additionally, she is the first Bigger Body experiment to not have a corresponding toy, and was thought that she was created solely for Playcare.
- However, the Orientation Notebook revealed that she had been modeled after a toy doll once sold by Playtime Co.[15]
- Additionally, she is the first Bigger Body experiment to not have a corresponding toy, and was thought that she was created solely for Playcare.
- Miss Delight has an unused walking animation in which she walks elegantly instead of her present hobble walking.
- Miss Delight’s speed is significantly slower in the mobile port.
- Miss Delight knows where the player is even when they are not in her line of sight, though it's likely that she's able to pinpoint their location by following the sound of their footsteps.
- Miss Delight follows the easiest way to the Player without necessarily following their exact steps.
