He IS a good candidate for 1322C, should his personality mesh with the other two. But please, be gentle if you pick him. He's a fine young man. The future we're fighting for would be a waste if we sacrifice too many like him.
Stella Greyber, Subject 1322C Report

Matthew Hallard was an orphan test subject who was chosen to be one of the three test subjects for Experiment 1322.

Personality[]

In the Subject 1322C Report, Matthew Hallard is described as a "dream child" by Claire Harper, being thoughtful, kind, considerate and understanding. Even though he isn't academically or physically gifted, he possesses charm and charisma, causing everyone in Playcare to be fond of him and the younger children to see him as a leader of sorts. However, he does suffer from insecurities that stem from him being unable to save his family from the accident that made him lose them.

History[]

Backstory[]

In 1993, counsellor Claire Harper wrote a report about orphan Matthew Hallard, a teenager living in Playcare. She documented that Matthew was very kind and mature, breaking up fights and helping out the younger children. However, he did suffer from insecurities. Despite this, the scientists chose him to be Subject 1322C, the third test subject for a Bigger Body version of Doey the Doughman. Stella Greyber left a note on the report begging that they be "gentle" with Matthew when experimenting on him, but the outcome of this is unknown.

As Doey[]

With how he looked after many of the other orphans and was seen as a parental or guardian figure, Matthew's personality is believed to be the primary one of the three used to create Doey. His friendliness, leadership and maturity is how Doey mainly acts when facing serious circumstances, such as him staying calm despite the urgency of the situation, leading others with determination and being a responsible and reliable figure.

Though, this could also be the primary reason of Doey's eventual decline; initially taking the blame on himself for the explosion in Safe Haven. His guilt overtakes him since he believes he failed to protect the others, just like how he couldn't save his family from the accident that led him to be sent to Home Sweet Home as an orphan.

During the chase, his lines also exhibit his self-reproach. For instance, him saying that he couldn't save anyone and was never enough displays his insecurities a lot. At the final scene, Matthew mentions that he can't protect anyone and was never what anyone needed before Doey's death. In the end, he returns to his usual demeanor and expresses his regret in his apology to the Player before succumbing to his injuries.
