Icky Licky is one of the Nightmare Critters, a group of eight characters created by Playtime Co. who (presumably) serve as the antithesis of the Smiling Critters. He was a toy produced by Playtime Co. and is featured in Chapter 4: Safe Haven as a minor antagonist in the form of a small hostile plush toy.

Appearance

Icky Licky is an anthropomorphic poison dart frog, characterized by black-and-yellow skin that complements his expressive black eyes, which (like the other Nightmare Critters) are furrowed in a permanent glare. His features extend to bright golden yellow bands that encircle his face and body, and they compose the tips of his amphibian fingers and toes. In line with the other Nightmare Critters (and the Smiling Critters), Icky sports a perpetual wide toothless grin, his inner mouth shrouded in mysterious darkness. A silver zipper line gracefully adorns his center, with the zipper sporting a black biohazard sign pendant encapsulated in a thick red outline. Icky also emits the scent of coffee from the little spray applicator in his mouth.

Icky Licky's cartoon appearance is roughly the same as his toy appearance, albeit with his zipper line removed, the addition of white pupils, and the zipper pendant now attached to a black necklace.

Personality

“	Icky's the type of kid to fall behind in a relay race and IMMEDIATELY pin it on a sore knee, even when that's NOT the case. He's the very definition of a poor sport. Even though he's naturally talented, he's constantly challenging anyone on absolutely everything, and usually without the outcome he expects (don't worry, he has an excuse ready).	”

According to his character description, Icky Licky is a sore loser with a hyper-competitive streak. He consistently challenges his friends to copious competitions - each different than the last - on a daily basis. Although he possesses natural talent, his arrogance eclipses said talent. It's this arrogant disposition which - when combined with his competitive persona - leads him to vastly underestimate his opponents, ultimately ending in his chronic defeat. Rather than conceding the loss to his opponent, he repeatedly assigns blame to events outside of his control, be it luck or getting dirt in his eyes (though his friends see through his excuses).

However, Icky's toxic personality is possibly a facade, one used to hide an inferiority complex that festers and grows inside of him.

History

Chapter 4: Safe Haven

In the Toy Graveyard, after The Shelf's gate closes and The Player approaches it, along with the Mini Huggies and other Nightmares Critters, several Icky Licky plush toys appear to attack them, while they defend themselves with Flare Hand. As soon as The Player leaves The Shelf entrance, the attacks subside and the Icky Licky plushies, as well as other Nightmare Critters and Mini Huggies, retreat.

On the East Block's lower floor, on The Doctor's orders, as well as other Nightmare Critters, several Icky Licky plush toys appear to attack The Player, who tries to repel them again using the Flare Hand. After a certain amount of time in which The Player is tested by The Doctor, he uses a sound of Yarnaby's roar, causing the Icky Licky plush toys, as well as the Nightmare Critters and Mini Huggies, to retreat.

As The Player walks through the Foundation caverns to collect explosives, several Icky Licky plush toys, as well as other Nightmare Critters plush toys, and Mini Huggies reappear and attack, forcing them to counterattack using the Flare Hand.

Trivia

• In terms of appearance, Icky Licky seems to be based on a yellow-banded poison dart frog.
• Icky was the second Nightmare Critter to have his description revealed on X (formerly Twitter).
• His pendant, a biohazard sign, could play into his toxic personality and species of choice.
• He is the only member of the Critters (both Smiling and Nightmare lines) who is an amphibian.
  • He is also one of the only two members of the Critters (both Smiling and Nightmare lines) who is not an animal native to North America. The other being Bubba Bubbaphant. Yellow-banded poison dart frogs are found in South America. As such, his species is out of place with the setting.
    • His coffee scent also falls in line with South America being the continent which produces the most coffee, especially in Brazil; the cocoa bean one of the primary defining ingredients in the creation of coffee.
• In the past, coffee was used to aid in concentration during nighttime.
• He and Poe are the only Nightmare Critters who lack teeth.
• He is the only critter of both Smiling and Nightmare lines to lack a tail (as frogs only have tails when in their tadpole stages and when they're juveniles).
• He is most likely the inverse of KickinChicken. whereas the latter is chill and a good sport, while the former is a poor sport (despite being naturally talented) and blames it either on others or certain inconveniences.
