The Holding Area is a location seen in Chapter 4: Safe Haven of Poppy Playtime.
This location consists of a large room full of cages, inside which are held several Nightmare Critters experiments.
Appearance[]
The Holding Area is a maze-like area filled with cages, which were once used to hold experiments. Ironically, 10 years after the factories closure, many small toys can still be seen trapped within said cages. The cages can be partly opened using Power Switches which are laid across the area, many of which require Power Cells to be activated, hence the Power Cell Sockets in the area's walls.
There is a separate, small room within the Holding Area which contains a keycard and the corpse of a deceased employee. Another small room in the area has a container holding a Simon Smoke toy, connected to which is a Power Cord socket for activation.

Backstory[]
Prior to The Hour of Joy, the Holding Area was presumably used by Playtime Co.. to hold and study experiments. After the Hour, the experiments inside remained in their cages, under the control of The Doctor.
Chapter 4: Safe Haven[]
In 2005, The Player falls into the area after Sawyer disables their right hand. The Doctor releases upon them a large version of a Baba Chops plush, which begins to hunt The Player down as they open the cages of the other experiments in order to retrieve the batteries inside. Eventually, The Player manages to escape Baba Chops by hiding in an adjacent room, but discover the door leading out is locked, and that they have to kill a Simon Smoke plush in order to get out. They either do so or escape using their GrabPack through a hole in the ceiling, and proceed to an elevator which leads to The Doctor's Headquarters.

Trivia[]
In this area, some medium plush versions of Simon Smoke, Poe and Touille can be seen trapped in the cages. Unlike Poe who jumps around to prevent The Player from getting a battery, Simon and Touille don't do anything and just eat leftovers from Ruined Critters.
