The Hidden Labyrinth, also known as the Hide and Seek area, is a location seen in Chapter 2: Fly in a Web of Poppy Playtime.
This location is where The Player must escape from a deranged Mommy Long Legs to go back to the Game Station and board the Train to escape Playtime Co.. The Orientation Notebook gives a little bit more information on the function of the location(s).
Appearance[]
The Hidden Labyrinth is a series of rusty hallways, pipelines, and maintenance rooms. The location does not have a general appearance because it has several distinct sub-areas. Some hallways are decorated with colors, while others are just bland gray.
History[]
After Mommy Long Legs proclaims that she 'will find' The Player since they escaped from the Statues game, The Player is now trying to get back to the Game Station to find Poppy and board the Train to escape the factory. Suddenly, the vent flooring beneath them gives way, sending The Player falling into a dim area with a locked door and a hole in the ceiling above.
As The Player fires their GrabPack to try to lift themselves out of the room, Mommy roars in anger and drops down from the darkness above, having turned torn and dirty, scowling and yelling furiously at The Player for 'cheating' by escaping Statues, and how she 'hates' cheaters. She then tells The Player they are going to play 'one last game' of Hide-and-Seek, and her eyes dilate as her fingers turn alarmingly long and claw-like. Mommy then gives The Player a 10-second head start to hide from her, and stops at two abruptly if The Player has already fled down the stairs. If not, she will scream, jumpscaring and killing them.
Power Routing Room[]
The Player eventually arives at a grate door, in which they must flick four levers nearby in a specific order to open it. Above The Player are a set of clues to help identify the order in which the levers must be pulled. Mommy will appear at the end of the tunnel after leaving the room, accompanied by her hysterical laughter and giggles. The Player must pull themselves upwards quickly where the lever clues were to escape Mommy.
Incinerating Room[]
After Mommy leaves, The Player can continue through the tunnel into the Incinerating Room, where they must find a gear mold, make a new gear and place it in the machine to open the next grate door. However, Mommy finds The Player again, and they must go into the incinerator, pull the doors closed and wait until she leaves.
Sewer System & Emergency Exit[]
The Player can then continue into the room past the grate door and over the bridge and flick the lever, where Mommy will show up again and begin chasing them back towards the Incinerating Room, where The Player will soon fall through a hole into what are presumed to be the underground sewer system, where The Player must dodge and run from Mommy as she tries to reach them by extending her arms. The Player must then seize their chance to grapple up, after which The Player will land on a ruined corridor, at which point they must grapple again, swinging across the gaping hole in the floor. The Player will come to the Emergency Exit door, where they must scan their blue GrabPack hand while Mommy bursts from the end of the corridor and starts running maddeningly towards The Player.
Grinder Room[]
Upon finishing scanning, The Player must quickly go inside as Mommy charges after them. However, she is so eager to catch them that she gets her left hand stuck in the grinder. The Player then pulls the grinder's lever promptly, and it begins to operate, reeling Mommy in as she hollers that The Player 'can't do this' to her, and that 'he'll' make her 'part of himself'. Mommy lets out a terrible scream as her abdomen is crushed, killing her. Her torso then severs from her corpse and collapses to the ground, which is then dragged away by a mysterious claw. The door to the right of The Player then opens, allowing them to enter Bay 09.
Conveyor Outlet[]
"This is just an access point for the conveyor system, but we tried to brighten it up a little by painting a nice picture of Candy Cat on the wall. The lever here activates the conveyor belt."
Power Routing Room[]
"This room is easy to identify by the four colored levers on the walls. You must operate these levers in the correct sequence. If you forget the sequence, use your GrabPack to grapple up into the ceiling and check the numbers on the battery packs:
1 = Red 2 = Blue 3 = Green 4 = Yellow
The door to this room will only open when the power is on."
Incinerating Room[]
"The furnace here has lots of uses! It’s mainly for heating and shaping metal components, but it also helps heat the factory. And like any normal company, from time to time we need to burn stuff and ensure it’s never seen again. If your supervisor or any senior member of staff asks you to burn something for them, don’t ask questions! Just head down to the furnace and get burning.
And don’t bring visitors down here, unless they're giving you a lot of trouble! Just kidding. But seriously, don’t bring them down here.
Obviously don’t walk into the furnace! But if you do somehow find yourself in there, stay at the far end of it until the flames die down, and you should be safe. Please note that Playtime Co. accepts no responsibility for injury sustained by employees who walk into the furnace."
MAINTENANCE NOTE
"The main gear here wears out easily. If you need to make a new one, the gear mold should be stored on a shelf. You can climb the steps to the mold slot on the molding machine and insert the gear mold into it. Use your green GrabPack hand to take a charge to the socket by the furnace, which will light it. Wait for the flam to die down, then take the new gear and insert it into the mechanism on the opposite wall."
Grinder Room[]
"The grinder is used to break up large pieces of waste before they're disposed of, and whoa, it is super dangerous! When it’s not in use, the power should be disconnected, because otherwise this is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. Anyone going near it risks getting their limbs caught in the grinder, which will draw them into it—a great way to get rid of anyone you don’t want around! We're joking, of course. It would be a terrible tragedy if anyone got caught in the grinder."
Sewer System[]
"This is obviously a necessary part of the factory, but please do not use it a way of getting from one part of the factory to another, even if you are in a hurry. There are grapple bars in this area, but they are only to be used in an emergency. Only use them if you have become stuck in the sewers by circumstances beyond your control."Gallery[]
Trivia[]
- Mommy referring to Hide-and-Seek as 'one last game' possibly means that she has disregarded The Player's participation in Statues, due to them 'cheating' and escaping, and thinks that they owe her a game still.
- The blood splattering the grinder as Mommy's abdomen is crushed confirms that she is organic.
- The black streaks under Mommy's eyes as she is yelling at The Player that they 'cheated' look akin to tears, as if she had been crying.
- Even some of the sounds she makes while chasing The Player sound like weeping.
