Experiment 814 is a document found within Chapter 2: Fly in a Web of Poppy Playtime.
The document covers a rat who was experimented on but yielded no noteworthy results.
Location[]
After obtaining the Poppy Key and opening Elliot Ludwig's Office, The Player can find the document sitting on his desk alongside the Brown VHS Tape and the Daisy Trophy.

Plot[]
The document shows that Experiment 814 was conducted with a live rat as a subject for two weeks. The rat was fed three times a day, possibly to ensure that it was in a certain physical condition before moving on to the next phase.
At the conclusion of the feeding period, the rat was sacrificed and then placed in a mixture made of poppy flower and a preservative gel to prevent it from decomposing. This mixture appears to be intended to preserve the animal's body and to trigger or enhance a characteristic of the flower.
After a week, an electric shock was applied to the body of the rat, which was still in the mixture. The shock was given to revive the rat, but was unsuccessful, as the animal remained unresponsive.
The paper states that, although the experiment was a failure, it is still thought that the poppy flower could be very useful. It is also believed that the plant's unusual properties could change the workings of life in some way if the right mixture and procedure is discovered.
In addition, it is mentioned that the poppy flower has long been associated with strong symbolism, and it is implied that this connection may be deeper than just cultural or spiritual, hinting that it may possess real qualities that have yet to be fully discovered.
Finally, it is suggested that employing a being larger than a rat could produce different results.
Transcript[]
Experiment 814
Notes:
- This experiment utilized a live rat.
- Rat was fed 3 portions daily for 2 weeks.
- At the end of the two weeks, the rat was killed and submerged into a poppy flower and preservative gel mixture.
- 1 week later, an electric shock was applied to the rat (still in the gel) in an attempt to revive it.
- The rat remained unresponsive.
Analysis:
I still believe in the potential of the poppy flower. Its unusual properties lead me to believe that the proper mixture and procedure could have life altering properties. The poppy flower has for a long time carried heavy symbolism, and I don't believe that's for no reason. Perhaps something larger than a rat would yield different results.
Theorizing[]
- It is most likely that Elliot Ludwig wrote this document. This is based on a detailed comparison of the handwriting in the report with that of Mr. Ludwig's signature[1], which shows many repeated similarities.
- Slant & Flow
- Elliot Ludwig signature: Has a fluid, rightward slant, relatively elegant, with loops in the "L" and "g".
- 814 handwriting: Also has a consistent rightward slant with flowing letters (especially in the word “Analysis” and the cursive-like lowercase "f" and "y").
- Letter Shape
- Lowercase "t": In both, the "t" has a low crossbar and slight curve.
- Lowercase "y": In both, the tail loops back upward with a dramatic swoop.
- Capital “E” in "Elliot" vs "Experiment": The capital “E” in “Experiment” on the 814 doc is a stylized cursive that resembles the “E” in the signature; strong vertical line, with three parallel top bars.
- Line Pressure & Consistency
- Both documents show variable pressure: thick strokes on downstrokes, lighter on upstrokes.
- Suggests a similar writing instrument and technique.
- Slant & Flow
- There is also the possibility that Harley Sawyer wrote the document. This comes from the last sentence of the document, which suggests a possible desire to use humans as test subjects, which would fit with the type of thinking that may have led to Sawyer's expulsion from the Young Geniuses Program. If this is true, the document would have been written while he was still part of the programme. However, this is probably not the case, as when examining the handwriting in the document against Sawyer's[2], the graphic differences are clear and consistent.
- "t" formation
- Harley Sawyer: Very tall with high crossbar, often doesn’t connect cleanly.
- Experiment 814: Shorter, slanted crossbar, often connected fluidly.
- "s" shape
- Harley Sawyer: Very rounded, soft curves.
- Experiment 814: Sharper “s” with narrow upper loop.
- "y" tail
- Harley Sawyer: Straight or gently curled.
- Experiment 814: Dramatically looped upward tail.
- "d" loop
- Harley Sawyer: Narrow with distinct separation between stem and loop.
- Experiment 814: Looser, more circular "d", with frequent stroke merging.
- "t" formation
- A presumed picture of Experiment 814 appears in the Chapter 4 Cinematic Trailer: The Doctor.
