Darwin Silva is a Warrenbach Construction employee who was in charge of the company by 1972 at the latest. Unaware of Playtime Co.'s true intentions with their seemingly innocent facilities, Silva reluctantly went through with construction of the Shelf despite his concerns, after being threatened by Eddie M. N. Ritterman.

Personality

Not much is known about Silva's personality, but based on his dialogue in Construction Plans: The Shelf, he seems to be non-naive, knowing that it was strange and rather concerning for a toy company to be wanting a prison within their factory. Additionally, it seems that in extreme circumstances, he's unable to defend himself, since after Eddie M. N. Ritterman cornered him against a ledge, instead of trying to find any sort of legal solution for dismissing Warrenbach's contract with Playtime, he went through with the prison's construction purely out of fear.

History

Backstory

By 1972, Darwin Silva was the head of Warrenbach Construction, and he signed a contract with Playtime Co. on behalf of his company, in which it was agreed that Warrenbach would build anything Playtime wanted from them. 4 years later, during the construction of Playcare, Silva overviewed the project, with Elliot Ludwig assuring him that the orphanage would help countless children.

Years later in 1990, Silva signed another of Playtime Co.'s contracts, this one having a small clause stating "any and all directives will be accomplished in the appropriate time, and with appropriate compensation should the project be completed to satisfaction." This would later be used against him.

Other Constructions

When Warrenbach was requested around 1993 to build a prison, Silva displayed concerns to Eddie M. N. Ritterman regarding its purpose, telling him that before building it, he would need to be reassured that Playtime was still a trustworthy company. But instead of this request being fulfilled, Ritterman simply reminded Silva of the contractual agreements and even cornered him against a ledge for intimidation. Following this, Silva approved the project, and so, construction began soon afterward.

During the prison's construction, Warrenbach were also requested to build a Safe Haven, with Silva being the manager of this project.

In early 1994, the Playtime Co. scientists warned Warrenbach employees through a document to be aware of Red Smoke and its flammable properties. On the back of this paper, Silva left a note to his workers, telling them to just do what the Playtime staff say without asking questions.

Theorizing

The surname of employee Cyril Warrenbach implies that he founded Warrenbach Construction, but it's known that Silva was running the company by 1972, possibly meaning that Cyril passed on leadership to Silva as he began aging out. This theory is made more plausible when considering that Warrenbach was founded in 1930, meaning that by the 1970's, Cyril probably would've been at least in his 60's if he truly was the company founder. That said, it's known that Cyril was still working for Warrenbach during the 1990's since he was involved in construction of the Safe Haven. However, it's also possible that he simply wasn't ready to fully retire but also no longer wanted to be in charge of the whole company.
