| — Claire Harper, Claire Harper Debrief | ||
Claire Harper was a Playtime Co. employee who worked as a counselor at Playcare to take care of the orphans, one of them being Marie Payne. She originally debuted in the Chapter 3 Interactable ARG before appearing in Chapter 3: Deep Sleep.
Appearance[]
Though Claire's appearance is depicted in a drawing by Riley, this most likely isn't an accurate depiction of her, as she is seen wearing a crown, which would be unusual for an employee.
Personality[]
Claire seems to dislike not having the answers to dire situations, referring to it as "infuriating." She also displays fierce, motherly protectiveness of the orphans under her care, referring to Marie Payne as her "little girl" and threatening the recipient of the report to ensure the incident never occurs again.
History[]
Marie Payne[]
On February 8 of an unknown year (before 1991), Claire wrote an incident report regarding one of the orphans she looked after: Marie Payne. She reported that after lights out, the girl began screaming and she appeared to be in a petrified state. Claire believed the incident may have been caused by a group of boys who had been teasing Marie. Regardless, she demanded that something like this never happen again.[1]
Later, a very similar incident occurred with Marie (this incident must have been a separate one or it breaks the timeline). In early 1991, after CatNap breathed out the Red Smoke to put the children to sleep, Claire witnessed Marie once again seeing something that put her in a severe state of terror. She reported this to a scientist and begged to see Marie, however, the scientist didn’t allow this, leading to Claire screaming and begging to see her "little girl" again.[2]
Playcare[]
In 1993, Claire wrote a report about orphan Matthew Hallard. She believed him to be a kind and mature boy, even reading books to the younger kids. Claire stated that should Matthew age out in Playcare, she may request to have him join the staff team.[4]
When Riley joined Playcare, Claire believed her to be a quiet child, so she suggested to Riley that she makes 2 lists about what’s important to her and the reasons why, believing that it would help her. Riley ended up listening to this request - writing 4 lists during her time in Playcare and continuing to write more even after becoming an experiment.[5]
Trivia[]
- It's possible that Marie remembered Claire's motherly qualities after becoming Mommy Long Legs, which she then reciprocated with the experiments and orphans.
- In the Claire Harper Debrief tape, Claire speaks with a Texas-like accent, implying that she lived somewhere within Texas.
- The aforementioned tape also reveals that Claire was aware of the experiments. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean she didn’t care for the children, as it’s known that not everyone who had knowledge about the experiments were aware of their true nature, Cole Vaughn being a prime example. And based on her attitude toward the orphans, it does seem like Claire genuinely cared about them.
